Donate a Tecnam P2008

The P2008 is a modern light sport trainer, and many have flown hard in schools. When the flying stops, donating ends the hangar and the insurance in one step.

P2008s reach us from flight schools turning over their fleets, from clubs, and from private owners who have stopped flying. Most are special light sport aircraft with a Rotax 912 ULS, a composite fuselage and metal wings, and a glass or mixed panel. Schools and youth aviation programs want them, and there is steady demand for flyable aircraft and for their parts.

What moves the number on a P2008

Category and paperwork. Tell us whether the aircraft is a special LSA or experimental LSA. The certification basis affects maintenance, who can sign it off and how it transfers.

Rotax hours and rubber. The 912 ULS has a 2,000-hour TBO on current serials, and Rotax calls for rubber hoses and parts to be replaced on a calendar. Give us hours and the date of the last rubber change; a parked aircraft is usually past it.

School use. Training aircraft collect hard landings, nose gear wear and cosmetic damage. Tell us whether the aircraft flew in a school and what the damage history shows.

Panel and ADS-B. A glass panel with ADS-B Out widens the buyer pool. An older or partial panel is fine; we only need to know which you have.

How a P2008 gets to us

If the aircraft is airworthy and the distance is reasonable, a qualified pilot flies it out. If its condition inspection has lapsed or the trip is long, it moves on a trailer with the wings removed by our crew. Every route is at our cost.

What you can deduct for this aircraft

A flyable P2008 usually sells and clears $5,000, so most donors deduct the gross proceeds reported on Form 1098-C with a qualified appraisal and Form 8283 Section B. A school-owned aircraft that has been depreciated is generally limited to adjusted basis, which is worth raising with your CPA. Budget for the appraisal as your own expense; the IRS requires it be independent of us, so we cannot choose or pay for yours.

We sign Section B as the recipient charity, and the IRS requires your appraiser be independent of us.

Rules for aircraft gifts are in IRS Publication 526, valuation in Publication 561. Nothing here is tax advice — confirm your figures with your CPA. How the deduction works · FAA paperwork
